Day 19: Logistical Success...Lake Como!!!

This day was all about getting 4 people, 4 sets of luggage and 1 complete year's worth of Dan's school stuff (books, clothes etc.) about 300 miles from Grenoble, France to Lake Como, Italy.  The other piece to this puzzle was that we had 1 itty bitty car that had 2 doors and no roof racks.  Peggy still thinks we could have done it...recalling the trips she'd taken with Jim and Christine, Jon and Ann Heinrich and with the Burlinghams and yada yada yada...The solution, in spite of Peggy's explanations, diagrams and convincing descriptions, involved the following attack plan:
*  We would drop Ben off at the Grenoble train station at noon
*  He would take a bus to Chambery, a bus to Turin, a train to Milan and a train to the city of Como...arriving at 8pm
*  Peggy, Dan and I would leave the Grenoble train station at noon and head to Dan's luggage storage area and pack all his college things with all of the rest of our combined luggage...jam it in the car and we would drive to our B and B in Lake Como...hopefully arriving by 6.
*  We would then drop off all the luggage, leave Dan in the hotel (sitting on the balcony doing Sporcle) and Peggy and I would drive the 45 minutes back to the city of Como, find the train station and pick up our awaiting Ben by 8pm
*  We would then drive back up to the B and B and have a relaxing, amazing dinner by 9pm.

Result:  NAILED IT!!!

Ahhh, but a few choice photos along the way:  Our fine accomodation in Grenoble, for our last night there was called FastHotel.  The good news was that there was a private bathroom in each room.  The other good news was the price of 35 euros per room....the Bad news....the bathroom was "convenient"...we could sit on the can, take a shower, shave and brush our teeth all from the same spot:))))

The drive leaving Grenoble was beautiful, as we passed by the Dent De Crolles (the one Ben and I went up the backside, and Dan and Peggy assaulted it from the front).  Still an amazing accomplishment!

Continuing just a bit further, through the French Alps and before we arrived in Italy, we had a short glimpse of Mont Blanc...it was a super clear day too!
We then "stopped", the engine that is, for lunch alongside a nice stream...no time to get out however!
When we finally did arrive at our B and B...everything was as we remembered it.  From the dining patio, I had a minute to kick up my feet and enjoy the view of Bellagio....

Once we picked up Ben and sat down to our meal...top on our list was a special shout out to Elva...we love you and pray for your fast recovery!  Ty is looking forward to seeing you here next year!!!
Many of you have been asking for more pictures of me...and who am I to disappoint...
The food was amazing again, and this plate of veal with local herbs and a homemade mayo really popped with flavor.
My dessert must have come from the book of "Perfect Desserts for Gary", because anyone can see that this strawberry creme brulee was delicious...

In fact, the entire weekly menu looks amazing...(you'll see this evening's meal under Sunday)
With all that accomplished in just one day, it is now time to be caught in my kids' world of Sporcle quizzes...some things you have to do for the family (which in this case includes getting mercilessly beaten on trivia quizzes by your kids)....we love you all and I would like to ask just once again to keep praying for the Deconincks...Thank you Lord for all of  Your blessings this day!
