Our hosts are perfect, Fabrizio and Marla, while having to leave early to procure fresh pizza toppings at the farmer's market early this morning, they left nothing to chance as we awoke slightly later, hungry for their amazing breakfast.
It was a straight uphill endeavor that promised to deliver us into a fog bank at the peak of the mountain, yet when we arrived, a clear view down to our Bella Baita awaited! This photo was taken with super zoom...
That's our tiny black car in the parking lot across from the B and B..no clown car this year Jim..but just as small:))) The clouds were partially dissolving as Peggy sat down on Elva's bench and pondered the glory of the village, and river coursing through it, about 4000 feet below us:
We also had a view of the mini hike we had taken two days ago, which in comparison to today's hike, is like Danny trying to beat me in Scrabble...Oh and don't worry about his feelings, he tells me he never reads my blogs anyway :)
Momma and baby boy enjoying the view... I'm just behind them attached to an oxygen tank...
Danny is truly a mountain gazelle as he leaps and bounds up or down these huge precipices. I have 2 walking sticks, because upon my autopsy, along with stating "he really was big boned" and "his DNA did give him a genetic propensity to burnt food", they will observe "wow, his knee really was jacked up!"
Wood Fired pizza awaits....but even in Italy, most folks wait until the last course to have salad...but it was so fresh and locally grown, who could stick to the local custom? we dove in...
Then it was time for Fabrizio to do his magic with the pizza oven at 300 degrees....centigrade :)
Peggy selected her fashionable garden rocket (arugula), prosciutto crudo and onions......not a bad choice until you see my masterpiece...
The pepperoni (which is called spicy salami), anchovies, onions and charcoal...the perfect combination...
Dessert was an amazingly light, actually it was, chocolate smothered, red currant (groseille) covered pound cake...which went perfectly with the Genepe aperitivo.
Dan and I stayed up late to engage in some Scrabble. This photo is noteworthy for multiple reasons...1st: you'll see that he beat me in the last game. The reason is, well that's not important, since I want to keep his and his mom's integrity intact and 2nd, you'll see the first two games crossed out. The reason for that is I started both games with a Bingo, and "they" begged to restart:)))
Dan slept well this night...as did his proud mama...ciao bella...tomorrow we head for Alba and Alessandro's Casa Ressia...
Our Saturday included a wonderful day at the Barberafest with the Neems and Kate. Great weather, great food, great wine, great friends. You were missed.
ReplyDeleteWe loved telling everyone you and Peggy we in Piemonte having original Barbera.
Even saw Paulette and the baby. Talked with Scott we are planning a ride in Napa as soon as you get back!
WOW!!!! You found my new happy bench!!! I am glad that Peggy warmed it up for me...but, I really believe I must make a trek there and sit on it myself. What do you think? Of course, I may need to sample some of that awesome food, too... All of God's goodnesses to us....
ReplyDeleteLoving hearing everything you are doing--living and eating vicariously. Love you guys, ELva
