It was a beautiful way to awake and start into our 5th week...sitting on our patio overlooking the church and the mist in the distance...
We decided to revisit Sant Antimo...a 13th century Monastery that is still in use today, where the monks sing chants for 20 minutes or so every few hours. we went to the Sesta at 12:45Upon departing, Peggy noticed this announcement...a choral group from Berlin would be performing tonight at 5pm...you bet we went back!
A group of 12 a capella choralists, chanting and singing beautifully as their voices floated around these stone walls and high ceilings to about 75 visitors...it was heavenly and a wonderful time of reflection, prayer and praise...eventhough it was in German...
When we returned (only 10km away), it was dinner time...and Jim and Christine would recognize our table as the PT (power table....the one, the only one, with the view of the valley)...
We started with their recommendation of a local favorite...zucchini flowers and the plant stuffed with meats, cheeses and lightly fried....wow! A shout out to Christine...her zucchini flowers are better and lighter:)))
Our primi piatti, the pasta course, was gnocchi rolled around nettles and cheese and then covered with sliced white truffles...I can still taste them...can you?
A side of lightly tempura fried local vegetables...with the onion rings showing some extra love:)
And a veal roast with Brunello sauce and oiled vegetables. Peggy and I split everything, and so wound up nowhere near as full as you might think...but we were incredibly amazed at the quality...
The recommended local Rosso Di Montalcino (better than Brunellos IMHO), was superb and very reasonable priced...
We finished with a pear soaked in Brunello and dusted with sugar and some kind of super thick whipped cream...yum
A small discussion with our non-English speaking host (the mom of our friend Michele, who is on vacation)...as she didn't want to unplug and replug the router...even though all the guests were complaining of internet inaccessibility. She figured if her computer was working...no problem. I even had Peggy do some stealth reconnaissance to await her departure...but now at 10:45 sitting in the stairwell...I may be the only guest with limited access:) Tomorrow, as you know, all roads lead to Roma! Ciao Bella!
Maybe she was saving electricity, says the Scotsman. . . false economy :)
